Jack Lachlan was born on the Federation world of Izar.  Raised a Starfleet brat, he spent several summers living with an Andorian Godfather.  The people and culture of Andoria had a strong influence on him.  He joined Starfleet as soon as he was old enough, and graduated in 2371 as an Ensign.  Over the next few years he served at a variety of duty stations, including Station Salem One, the USS Renegade, and even a Klingon vessel thanks to Starfleet’s officer-exchange program.  In 2374 Jack transferred to the USS Sirago where he served throughout the Dominion War.  During the war, the ship was badly damaged in battle, forcing the crew to evacuate.  During the Evacuation, Jack was severely injured and paralyzed from the neck down.  Sent back to Earth for treatment, he received neural and spinal cybernetic implants that allowed him to walk again.  After returning to active duty, the Ensign took part in researching advanced technology brought back by the USS Voyager.  From 2377-2380, he served with the Advanced Starship Design Bureau.  By 2381, he longed to serve aboard a starship again, and joined the Maximillian.
