Errsedorian

Page history last edited by Chris Stephenson 15 years, 3 months ago

Errsedorians are an intelligent, advanced race of mercury-based lifeforms native to the moon Errsedoria orbiting planet Isser in the Inerziin system located in Galaxy NGC-6118.  Though they are basically shape-shifters in nature, they are very dissimilar to the Founders of the Dominion in the Gamma Quadrant of our galaxy.

The first major difference is in general body structure.  The Founders of the Dominion are basically fluid, while the Errsedorians have a defined cellular structure.  Therefore, when dormant, the Errsedorians can maintain a somewhat solid form.  In other words, they do not need a bucket to contain their body mass in dormacy.  Like the founders, shape-shifting for an Errsedorian is a learned skill, requiring some practice in order to effectively use this ability.  Unlike the founders of the Dominion, who can take any form, any texture, any reasonable weight in their shape-changing abilities, Errsedorians in their most fluid state resembles mercury, and at their most solid state resembles a form of latex rubber.  Errsedorians had, over a period of several hundred generations developed a technique to make their cellular structure more or less regid in order to more realistically imitate the form a given object or living entity which they had chosen to assume.

Though every individual cell in the body of an Errsedorian is a single entity, they depend on the whole collective of the body in order to survive-no cell can live independently for over a period of a few minutes when seperated from the body of the Errsedorian.  Each cell is performs a specific task for the body fo the whole during a given period of time, after which the cell will require a period of rest and will perform another less energy-consuming task while other cells will take its place in performing its primary task.  This allows the Errsedorian to remain active for a period of several days without requiring rest in the nature humanoid life-forms are accustomed to.  The nature of the cellular makeup of the Errsedorian, in addition to enabling him to work for extended periods of time, also results in the lifespan of an Errsedorian to be on the order of some three-hundred thirty standard years.

Reproduction is asexual in nature.  In procreation, new cells are generated by a special cell with a slightly different genetic makeup.  These new cells are set aside by the Errsedorian parent.  The slightly altered genetic makeup will allow them to exist autonomously from the host body.  When enough of these cells are produced and detached from the parent host, they become a seperate and autonomous life-form.  "Newborn" Errsedorians have a different color than the metallic silver adult, appearing to have a slight tinge of bronze.  Childhood among Errsedorians lasts for a period of approximately one Standard year during which time the child learns to regulate itself as an autonomous lifeform.  Childhood is so brief for Errsedorians due to the fact that much of the knowledge concerning survival is transferred from the parent to child before "birth".  Though they are adults after the initial year, they tend to remain with the parent for approximately an additional five to twenty-five years, depending on how long it takes for the child to decide what they would do for the rest of their life.

Errsedorians reach physicial maturity at about twenty-five to thirty years of age, allowing them to procreate.  Upon reaching full maturity, Errsedorians have ten-year cycles.  A group of cells within the Errsedorian, known among this species as Ozmarzaks, begin to re-write the DNA coding within selected cells of the Errsedorian body.  The initial recording takes place during the first three years.  Between three to nine years, the DNA continues to re-write itself, continuing to become more dissimilar to the parent.  This action doesn't necessarily mean that a separate entity is being developed, it is merely a cycle.  If after year nine and if a chemical signal has not been sent to this group of cells, this group will be reabsorbed into the parent body, and the cycle will begin again.  If at any time a signal is sent from the parent body to procreate, this altered group of cells will begin to develop an offspring.  This signal to procreate is a conscious choice by the Errsedorian parent.  Typically, Errsedorians will not choose to procreate during their first three cycles, as the parent body is still working out all the "bugs" in creating new DNA sequences.  The average age of procreation among Errsedorians take place when the parent is between one hundred fifty to two hundred years of age, approximately middle-age for an Errsedorian.  The average number of Errsedorians per parent is about three, even though a parent can conceivably have twenty-five.  Once the decision to procreate is made, it has to be seen through.  The process cannot be stopped without killing the parent.  After month ten, the time of 'birth' is chosen by the parent.  Ten months time between "conception" to "birth" is necessary for sufficient physical development and transfer of basic knowledge to allow for autonomous survival.  If the parent wishes to impart more knowledge, the "birth" can be delayed for up to, but no longer than, one month.  Information, not experience, is transferred from parent to child.  One of the great controversies among the Errsedorian race is what is the optimum time for birth after the required initial ten-month period of "pre-natal" development.

Though they can consume foods eaten by humanoid life-forms, Errsedorians require forms of mercury-based compounds for nutrition.  The chemicals secreted by the Errsedorians assist in the breaking down of their food material, much like saliva and stomach acids do in humans.  Interestingly, this secretion is an Errsedorian waste product from consumed material.

The method of naming for individuals of the Errsedorian race is extremely simple.  Their first name is their chosen name, the second is the name of their parent, the third is that of their grandparent, and so on.  Captain Blobbin has over one-hundred one names that he knows of, and realizes he has many more.  This means that his remembered genealogy spans a period of over fifteen to twenty-thousand Standard years.

Federation science does not have much information in the area of civilization and culture for the Errsedorian race, only that which is provided by Admiral Blobbin, the only Errsedorian member of the Federation Starfleet.

What is known is that Errsedoria is not located within the confines of this galaxy, and that they are a highly advanced spacefaring race, whose culture and civilization had lasted for over thirty-thousand years.  Errsedorians are mostly a race of scholars ruled by an absolute monarch that Admiral Blobbin refers to as a Krefmir named Laskdiif Yaosjfgnh Akjazxdlk.

Errsedorians are also known to be excellent architects and engineers.  Their home planet, according to Blobbin, is covered with many magnificent architectural structures and buildings which no one in his race can justify a need for, as Errsedorians do not need buildings.  "It was simply just something to do."  He explains, "Errsedorians build because they can."  When asked why Errsedorians took up space travel, Admiral Blobbin explained, "Building alone was just getting to be too boring.  We needed something new to do, and boldly going where no Errsedorian has gone before seemed to be a good idea at the time."

Errsedorians, before The Conquest by the Troja Imperia, had no religious beliefs, and had never even thought about what happened to them after they died.  They just assumed that once you're dead, your existance was over.  Soon after The Conquest, Errsedorians began researching Imperial theology, and adopted the Imperial belief system and philosophy as their own.

The Troja Imperia's faith centers around one being called "The Creator" who was formed from four beings that had witnessed the death and birth of at least three "Universes" (i.e. witnessed three universal contractions (or "Great Crunches"), and three universal expansions (or "Big Bangs") ago.)  Sometime during this time, the four beings unified into one entity.  Now known as The Creator, this super-entity formed four planes of existance in honor of each of its four original beings.  The first plane is the universe as we percieve it; the second served as The Creator's home; the third is what could be referred to as the underworld; and the fourth would be the realm of all things traveling at superluminal (known as TransDiem, Hyperspace, or Subspace).

Errsedorians had developed their own traditions within the confines of the Creator's following.  Since they, generally, are good artists and sculptors, they began carving small statues of The Creator.  This would be their own personal view of the being that began their existence.  Soon the Errsedorians were carving out the god-figure with a unfinished half-side.  This they would entrust to a close friend to carve the owner's figure in after that owner of the statue died.  This was a way of the family or friends of that Errsedorian to have a lasting reminder of the one who passed on.  This would generally show the Errsedorian with his "arm" around The Creator as if in a picture.

These statues are very important to the Errsedorian culture and religion.
